I build free websites.
Seriously.

By Ashmit Bohora, a student at UT Austin.

I build the kind of website your business actually needs — clean, fast, honest — then host it for free on a Webspansion subdomain. Every decision goes through me. Nothing launches until I'm satisfied with it.

19 free websites built so far. Could yours be next?

Free design. Free hosting. Free subdomain. The only optional cost is a custom domain.

Why is it free?

I'm Ashmit Bohora, a sophomore at UT Austin. I started Webspansion in high school mostly because I wanted to build real things, not just practice projects.

Honest answer: I get more out of it than you do. Every project teaches me how to work with clients, how to solve real design problems, how to actually ship something. You get a website. I get experience I can't get in a classroom.

If you ever want to support the project, there's a Ko-fi link in the footer. But it's genuinely never required.

How it works

Four steps. Zero dollars. One person who actually shows up.

01

You Apply

Fill out the short application. Tell me who you are, what your business or organization does, and what you're hoping to build. No technical knowledge needed. Rough ideas are fine.

02

I Review and Follow Up

If your project looks like a good fit, I'll reach back out with a second form. This is where we get into the details — your content, goals, photos, links, and anything else I need to build something real. The more you share, the better the site.

03

I Build and You Review

I direct the project from here. You'll see the site before it launches and have a chance to give feedback. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

04

You Launch

Your site goes live on a free Webspansion subdomain. Hosting is included at no cost. If you want a custom domain, I'll handle the technical setup — you'd just purchase the domain itself.

Common questions

Still wondering if this is real? Fair question.

Is this actually free? What's the catch? +

Yes. The website is free. Hosting is free. Your site launches on a free Webspansion subdomain — something like yourbusiness.getwebspansion.org. That's a real, permanent URL, not a preview link. The only potential cost is if you want a custom domain (like yourbusiness.com) — that's something you'd buy separately, typically $10–15/year. I handle all the technical setup. There's no catch. Webspansion is a personal project. I build real sites because I want real experience. You get a professional website. If you ever want to support what I'm building, there's a Ko-fi link in the footer — but it's never expected, and it's never required.

Why are you doing this for free? +

Because real projects are the best way to learn. School assignments and personal projects only take you so far. Working with actual clients, figuring out what they need, solving real design problems, shipping something they'll actually use. That's the kind of experience you can't fake or replicate in a classroom. Webspansion lets me do that while genuinely helping people who need it.

Who can apply? +

Small businesses, nonprofits, student organizations, immigrant-owned businesses, community groups, and individuals who need a website but don't have the budget for one. I especially want to help Nepali and South Asian businesses and organizations. That outreach is a core part of what Webspansion is about. If you're not sure whether you qualify, just apply and explain your situation.

Is every application accepted? +

No. I take on a limited number of projects at a time, and I have to be selective about what I take on and when. I prioritize projects where a website can make a genuine difference — not just "nice to have." If your project isn't the right fit, I'll say so and try to point you somewhere useful. Applying costs nothing either way.

How long does it take to build? +

It depends on the project — its size, complexity, and how much content you can provide upfront. Simpler sites move faster. Projects with more pages, custom features, or missing content take longer. My availability affects things too. I'll give you an honest estimate once I understand your project. What I won't do is rush a build to hit an arbitrary deadline. Quality matters more than speed.

Can I get my own domain (.com / .org)? +

Yes. Sites launch on a free Webspansion subdomain first (like yourbusiness.getwebspansion.org). If you want a custom domain, you'd purchase it through a registrar like Namecheap or Squarespace Domains, typically $10–15/year. I'll handle all the technical setup to connect it. That's the only potential cost.

What is a Webspansion subdomain? +

Every website I build launches at something like yourbusiness.getwebspansion.org. It's a real, live URL, not a preview or staging link. You can share it with customers, put it on business cards, whatever. It's hosted at no cost, indefinitely. If you want a cleaner .com or .org later, I can connect that too.

Can I request updates or changes after launch? +

Yes, within reason. I'm not a 24/7 agency and I can't promise unlimited revisions forever. But if something needs to be fixed, updated, or adjusted, reach out and I'll try to help. Bigger changes or full redesigns would go through a new application, since those are essentially new projects.

Can you redesign my existing website? +

Absolutely. If you already have a site but it looks outdated, loads slowly, or just doesn't represent you well, I can rebuild it while keeping what you need: your content, your branding, your links. Apply and describe what you currently have and what you're hoping to improve.

Do I need to have everything ready before applying? +

Nope. You don't need a logo, photos, or written copy before you apply. Rough ideas are totally fine. I'll figure out the details with you once I accept your project. Having content ready does make things go faster, but it's not a requirement to get started.

Do you work with Nepali or South Asian businesses? +

Yes, and this is a priority. A lot of Nepali-owned businesses, South Asian community organizations, and immigrant-owned small businesses have been operating for years without any web presence. If that's you, or if you know someone like that, please apply or send them this link. This community is a core part of what Webspansion is trying to reach.

Will my site work on mobile? +

Yes. Every website built by Webspansion is fully responsive. It looks right on any screen, from a 4-inch phone to a 27-inch monitor. Mobile-readiness isn't an add-on. It's built in from the start.

How does AI fit into the process? +

I've built workflows that use AI throughout the process — for drafting, coding, organizing content, and debugging. It lets me build faster and better than I could working purely manually. But I direct every project. I review everything before it goes to the client. I make the final calls on design, structure, and what gets launched. Nothing ships automatically. Projects are approved by me, not generated by software. You're working with someone who uses good tools — not a service that runs on autopilot.

Refer someone

Know someone who needs a free website?

If a nonprofit, student org, small business, or community project comes to mind, point them here. Most of my work comes from someone passing the word along. There’s no referral form to fill out and nothing to track: just send them the application.

Volunteer / Apprentice (not a client spot)

Want to help build Webspansion from the inside?

I'm looking for a small group of people to work alongside me: outreach, web building and QA, and content. Real projects, real portfolio work. This is not a website application.

Want a free website?

You don't need to have it all figured out. Just tell me who you are and what you're working on. I read every message and follow up if it looks like a good fit.

Not every project makes it in. I take on a limited number of projects at a time. But reaching out costs nothing, and if it’s not a fit right now I’ll say so honestly.
