Practical web stuff — for business owners, not developers.
What I actually learned from building 19 free websites
Not the resume version. The real stuff — what goes wrong, what clients actually need, and what I'd do differently.
Why small businesses without a website are losing customers right now
There's a specific type of customer that bounces immediately when you don't have a site — and most local businesses don't realize it's happening.
Why is it free?
Hey — I'm Ashmit Bohora, a sophomore at UT Austin. I started Webspansion in high school mostly because I wanted to build real things, not just practice projects.
Honest answer: I get more out of it than you do. Every project teaches me how to work with clients, how to solve real design problems, how to actually ship something. You get a website. I get experience I can't get in a classroom.
If you ever want to support the project, there's a Ko-fi link in the footer. But it's genuinely never required.
Who can apply?
Webspansion helps people who need a real online presence but don't have the budget for professional web help. See if you fit.

You Apply
Fill out the form below with your name, business, and what you're hoping to build. No technical knowledge needed.
I Build
I direct your project personally, using AI tools to draft, code, debug, and polish faster. You'll get updates along the way and can give feedback before it launches.
You Launch
Your site goes live. You own it. No ongoing fees, no subscriptions. Future updates can be requested — I try to help when I can, but I'm not a 24/7 support service.
Common questions
Still wondering if this is real? Fair question.
Is this actually free? What's the catch? +
Yes, completely free. No catch, no hidden fees, no bait-and-switch. Webspansion is a personal project — I build real websites because I want real experience. You get a professional site at zero cost. Optional Ko-fi donations help cover hosting, but they're never expected or required.
Why are you doing this for free? +
Because real projects are the best way to learn. School assignments and personal projects only take you so far. Working with actual clients — figuring out what they need, solving real design problems, shipping something they'll actually use — that's the kind of experience you can't fake or replicate in a classroom. Webspansion lets me do that while genuinely helping people who need it.
Who can apply? +
Small businesses, nonprofits, student organizations, immigrant-owned businesses, community groups, and individuals who need a website but don't have the budget for one. I especially want to help Nepali and South Asian businesses and organizations — that outreach is a core part of what Webspansion is about. If you're not sure whether you qualify, just apply and explain your situation.
Is every application accepted? +
No. I can only take on a few projects at a time alongside school, so I have to be selective. I prioritize projects where a website can make a real, meaningful difference — not just "nice to have." If your project isn't the right fit right now, I'll let you know and try to point you in a useful direction. Applying costs nothing either way.
How long does it take to build? +
It depends on the project. A straightforward 2–3 page site typically takes 2–3 weeks. More complex builds with galleries, lots of sections, or special features can take 4–6 weeks. School schedule also affects this — I'll always give you a realistic timeline upfront, and you'll get updates as we go. I won't ghost you.
Can I get my own domain (.com / .org)? +
Yes. Sites launch on a free Webspansion subdomain first (like yourbusiness.getwebspansion.org). If you want a custom domain, you'd purchase it through a registrar like Namecheap or Squarespace Domains — typically $10–15/year. I'll handle all the technical setup to connect it. That's the only potential cost.
What is a Webspansion subdomain? +
Every website I build launches at something like yourbusiness.getwebspansion.org. It's a real, live URL — not a preview or staging link. You can share it with customers, put it on business cards, whatever. It's hosted at no cost, indefinitely. If you want a cleaner .com or .org later, I can connect that too.
Can I request updates or changes after launch? +
Yes, within reason. I'm not a 24/7 agency and I can't promise unlimited revisions forever. But if something needs to be fixed, updated, or adjusted, reach out and I'll try to help. Bigger changes or full redesigns would go through a new application, since those are essentially new projects.
Can you redesign my existing website? +
Absolutely. If you already have a site but it looks outdated, loads slowly, or just doesn't represent you well, I can rebuild it while keeping what you need — your content, your branding, your links. Apply and describe what you currently have and what you're hoping to improve.
Do I need to have everything ready before applying? +
Nope. You don't need a logo, photos, or written copy before you apply. Rough ideas are totally fine. I'll figure out the details with you once I accept your project. Having content ready does make things go faster, but it's not a requirement to get started.
Do you work with Nepali or South Asian businesses? +
Absolutely — and this is a priority. A lot of Nepali-owned businesses, South Asian community organizations, and immigrant-owned small businesses have been operating for years without any web presence. If that's you, or if you know someone like that, please apply or send them this link. This community is a core part of what Webspansion is trying to reach.
Will my site work on mobile? +
Yes. Every website built by Webspansion is fully responsive — it looks right on any screen, from a 4-inch phone to a 27-inch monitor. Mobile-readiness isn't an add-on. It's built in from the start.
How does AI fit into the process? +
I use AI tools to draft code, organize content, debug, and polish faster — but I still direct every project, review everything before it goes live, and make the final calls on design and structure. Webspansion is AI-assisted, not AI-automated. Every site in the portfolio was reviewed, tested, and shaped by a real person before launch.
Want a free website?
You don't need to have it all figured out. Just tell me who you are and what you're working on. I read every message and follow up if it looks like a good fit.
Not every project makes it in — I can only take on so much alongside school. But reaching out costs nothing, and if it’s not a fit right now I’ll say so honestly.
Got it — thanks for reaching out.
I’ll get back to you within a few days. Talk soon.
