Terms of Service

Last updated: May 25, 2026  ·  Original: October 14, 2024

1. What is Webspansion

Webspansion is a student-run, community-focused project that builds free starter websites for small businesses, nonprofits, student organizations, immigrant-owned businesses, Nepali and South Asian businesses, and community organizations.

It is operated by Ashmit Bohora, a student developer. Webspansion is not currently a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, a registered business, or a paid agency. It is a personal project with a community mission.

By using this website, submitting an application, working with us on a project, supporting us on Ko-fi, or expressing interest in volunteering, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use this site or submit any information.

2. Who these terms apply to

These terms cover:

  • Applicants, anyone who submits a website application form
  • Clients, anyone whose application has been accepted and whose project is in progress or completed
  • Supporters, anyone who contributes on Ko-fi
  • Volunteers / Apprentices, anyone who joins the interest list or contributes to Webspansion projects
  • Visitors, anyone who browses this website

To use our services, you must be at least 13 years old, or have obtained parental or guardian consent if under 18.

3. Applying for a free website

Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Webspansion has limited capacity. Each application is reviewed individually, and not everyone who applies will be selected for a project. We'll follow up by email after reviewing your application.

When you apply, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and truthful information
  • Understand that capacity is limited and we cannot take every project
  • Understand that applying is not a contract or commitment from Webspansion
  • Confirm you have permission to use any materials, links, or content you submit
  • Acknowledge that Webspansion may use AI tools to help organize and build your website (see Section 9)
  • Understand that post-launch updates and changes depend on availability, not a guaranteed timeline

4. What we actually provide

Webspansion provides free website design and development services for accepted clients. This is a community project, there are no paid tiers, no upsells, and no charges for work completed.

What a typical project may include:

  • Custom website design and front-end development (HTML/CSS/JS)
  • Basic on-page SEO (title tags, meta descriptions, semantic structure)
  • Basic performance and speed optimization
  • Deployment and hosting setup (via GitHub Pages, Netlify, or similar)
  • Domain setup assistance, when feasible (see Section 5)

Every project is scoped based on what is realistic for a volunteer-run, community project. Webspansion does not promise any specific feature set, timeline, or deliverable beyond what has been explicitly confirmed for your project.

Webspansion is not an agency. We do not offer ongoing retainers, managed services, or paid contracts of any kind.

5. Domain and hosting

Webspansion hosts client websites using free or low-cost static hosting platforms (such as GitHub Pages or Netlify). These are reliable platforms but are third-party services. Webspansion does not control their uptime, performance, or changes to their policies.

Domains:

  • Webspansion may help set up a domain, but domain coverage depends on available resources and is not guaranteed for every project.
  • When a domain is purchased as part of a project, it is registered in the client's name and the client retains full ownership.
  • Premium domains (such as .com or .org) may require the client to cover registration and renewal costs. This will always be discussed and agreed upon before any purchase is made.
  • Webspansion does not guarantee any specific domain extension. What's available depends on the project, timing, and available budget at the time.

Webspansion does not guarantee uptime, load speed, or availability of hosted sites, as these depend on third-party hosting platforms outside our control.

6. Your responsibilities

If your project is accepted, you're responsible for providing the materials needed to build your website. This typically includes:

  • Your logo (high-resolution image or vector file, if you have one)
  • Written content: service descriptions, bios, hours, pricing, contact info, etc.
  • Photos or images you want on the site
  • Brand preferences: colors, fonts, style direction (if any)
  • Links to existing profiles, social accounts, or Google Business listing

You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of all content you submit. By submitting materials, you confirm that:

  • You own or have the rights to use everything you provide (photos, text, logos, etc.)
  • The content is accurate, up to date, and does not infringe on anyone else's intellectual property
  • The content does not contain anything illegal, harmful, or misleading

Webspansion is not responsible for verifying the accuracy or legal status of client-submitted content and assumes no liability for any issues arising from it.

Please don't submit sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers, financial account details, passwords, or private health information. Application forms are not encrypted end-to-end, and none of this information is needed to build a website.

7. Intellectual property

Your content is yours.

You retain full ownership of everything you submit, your logo, photos, written content, and brand materials. By submitting content, you grant Webspansion a limited, non-exclusive license to use it for the purpose of designing and building your website.

The code and design built for your site:

Webspansion builds each site using AI tools and direct review by Ashmit Bohora. The code and design created for your project are provided to you for your use as your website. You receive a perpetual, non-transferable license to use that code as the website Webspansion built for you.

Webspansion may reuse underlying frameworks, layouts, or structural code patterns across projects, but will not reuse your specific content (text, images, branding, etc.) for any other client.

8. Portfolio and marketing rights

By working with Webspansion, you grant us the right to feature your completed website in our portfolio, case studies, social media, and marketing materials. This helps demonstrate what the project does and attract future clients.

If you'd prefer your site not be featured, just let us know in writing at help@getwebspansion.org. We will stop using it going forward. We may not be able to remove content that has already been published in older posts or articles.

9. AI tools we use

Webspansion uses AI tools, primarily Claude (Anthropic), to help with tasks like drafting content, organizing project information, summarizing notes, and assisting with development. These tools help Webspansion work more efficiently as a one-person project.

What this means for your project:

  • Information you share during onboarding may be used in AI tool conversations to help plan and build your website. This is handled privately and is not shared publicly.
  • AI-generated content is always reviewed and edited before being used on your website. Webspansion does not publish raw AI output without human review.
  • AI tools do not have direct access to your accounts, files, or systems. They only see what is pasted or shared in a conversation.

By applying or working with Webspansion, you acknowledge and agree to this use of AI tools. If you have concerns, please reach out before submitting your application.

Anthropic's own privacy policy governs how Claude processes data. Webspansion is not affiliated with Anthropic.

10. Third-party tools and services

Webspansion uses several third-party tools to run this website and deliver projects:

  • Microsoft Clarity, Behavioral analytics and session recording on this website. See the Privacy Policy, Section 3 for full details.
  • Web3Forms, Processes application and contact form submissions. Form data is transmitted to Webspansion via Web3Forms' service.
  • Ko-fi, Handles all support contributions. Ko-fi processes payments independently and has its own privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts, Loads fonts (Space Grotesk, DM Sans) from Google's servers when you visit this site.
  • GitHub Pages / Netlify, Used to host client websites. Each platform has its own terms and privacy policy.

Webspansion does not control these third-party services and is not responsible for any issues, outages, data handling, or changes arising from them. Using this site or applying for a project means you acknowledge that these tools are in use.

11. Post-launch support and updates

Once your website is live, you may request minor changes, things like updating text, swapping a photo, or fixing a typo. Webspansion will do its best to help when time allows.

Post-launch support is not guaranteed. Webspansion is a one-person, volunteer-run project. Response time and availability for updates vary and cannot be promised on any fixed schedule. Updates are handled on a best-effort basis.

Large-scale redesigns, new feature development, or ongoing content management are outside the scope of what Webspansion currently offers.

If you need regular updates or ongoing website management, you may want to explore other solutions designed for long-term maintenance.

12. No guarantees

Webspansion provides services in good faith, but cannot guarantee specific outcomes. In plain terms:

  • No SEO guarantees. We'll implement solid on-page SEO basics, but we cannot promise specific search rankings, traffic numbers, or visibility on Google.
  • No business results guarantees. A website is a tool, not a guarantee of leads, sales, customers, or revenue. Results depend on many factors outside our control.
  • No uptime guarantees. Hosting is on third-party platforms. If a hosting platform goes down or changes its policies, that is outside Webspansion's control.
  • No security guarantees. We take reasonable precautions, but no website can be guaranteed fully secure against all possible threats.
  • No timeline guarantees. Project timelines are estimated and may vary based on workload, content delivery, and availability.

All services are provided "as is" and "as available." Webspansion makes no warranties, express or implied, beyond what is explicitly stated here.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Webspansion (and Ashmit Bohora personally) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of this site or our services. This includes, but is not limited to: loss of revenue, loss of data, business interruption, or damages caused by third-party services.

Because Webspansion's services are provided entirely free of charge, any liability is limited to the amount paid for those services, which, in most cases, is zero.

If a dispute arises, we ask that you contact us first at help@getwebspansion.org so we can try to resolve it informally. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States.

14. Volunteer and apprentice terms

Webspansion occasionally welcomes students and early-career contributors who want to gain real experience by working on community projects. If you've expressed interest in joining, here's what you should know:

  • Unpaid / volunteer-apprentice. Webspansion does not currently offer paid positions. Contributing is unpaid and based on interest and availability.
  • The interest list is not a commitment. Joining the interest list does not guarantee selection, a role, or any specific work assignment.
  • Work is reviewed before use. Any content, code, or design contributed by a volunteer will be reviewed before being published or used in a project.
  • Client confidentiality. Volunteers agree not to share private client information, including client names, contact details, project details, or submitted materials, with anyone outside the project.
  • No guarantee of credit or outcome. While Webspansion will try to acknowledge contributions, it cannot guarantee specific portfolio credits, references, or work outcomes.

15. Support and Ko-fi

Webspansion accepts voluntary financial support through Ko-fi. Here's the honest picture:

  • Webspansion is not a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Contributions are not tax-deductible charitable donations.
  • Support contributions are general contributions to the overall Webspansion project. They are not restricted to any specific client or website unless explicitly stated.
  • Support may help cover project costs such as AI tool usage, domains, software, content creation, admin work, or founder time, but is not guaranteed to fund any specific expense.
  • Ko-fi processes all payments independently. Webspansion does not store payment information.

For full transparency details, see the Support page.

16. Changes to these terms

Webspansion may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When significant changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.

Continuing to use this website or work with Webspansion after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms. If you have questions about what changed, email help@getwebspansion.org.
