Student-built. Community-focused.
Who Webspansion can help get online
Not sure if you qualify? This page walks through who Webspansion typically helps — and what to expect if you apply.
The short version
Webspansion builds free, AI-assisted websites for people and organizations who need a real online presence but don't have the budget for professional web help. Every project is reviewed and directed by Ashmit — not automated, not templated.
Not every application is accepted — capacity is limited and I'm doing this alongside school. But the categories below are where Webspansion has helped most, and where it's most likely to help again.
If you don't fit neatly into one category, that's fine. Apply anyway and explain your situation.

Most applicants don't fit perfectly into one box. A small nonprofit might also be immigrant-led. A student org might also be a community group. That's fine — the categories are just for navigation.
What matters is whether a free website could make a real difference for you. If you're not sure, use the Start Here page to find the right path, or just apply and explain your situation in the message field.
Go to Start Here →What Webspansion can usually help with
Every project is different, but here's what most Webspansion sites include:
- A custom homepage — not a template, reviewed before launch
- An about or mission section
- A services, programs, or offerings section
- A contact section (form, email, phone, address)
- Mobile-friendly layout on any device
- Basic SEO metadata (title, description, Open Graph)
- A free Webspansion subdomain (e.g. yourorg.getwebspansion.org)
- Optional: gallery, donation/volunteer info, social links, photo sections
What Webspansion may not be able to help with
Being upfront about limits is part of how Webspansion works. Here's what's often outside scope or not guaranteed:
- Large or complex projects — e-commerce, booking systems, member portals, and custom apps are usually outside free scope
- Long-term maintenance — post-launch updates are based on availability and are not guaranteed on any fixed schedule
- SEO results — good SEO basics are included, but rankings are not guaranteed by anyone
- Custom domain cost — a .com or .org domain costs ~$10–15/year and must be purchased separately
- Guaranteed acceptance — not every project is accepted; capacity is limited
- Guaranteed timeline — a realistic timeline is always discussed upfront, but school schedule affects delivery
What to prepare before applying
You don't need everything ready. But having these makes the process smoother:
- Your organization or business name
- The main goal of your website (what should it do for people who visit?)
- A logo, if you have one (not required)
- Photos, if you have them (not required)
- A list of your services or programs
- Contact info you want on the site
- Examples of websites you like (optional)
Common questions
Is Webspansion really free?+
Yes. Design, code, and launch are all free. The only potential cost is a custom domain (~$10–15/year) if you want a .com or .org — and that's entirely optional. You can use a Webspansion subdomain at no cost.
Do I have to fit perfectly into one of the categories?+
No. The categories exist to help you find relevant information, not to gate who can apply. If you think Webspansion can genuinely help you, apply and explain your situation.
What happens after I apply?+
Ashmit reads every application personally and follows up within a few days. If your project looks like a good fit, you'll hear back to discuss next steps. If it's not a fit right now, you'll get an honest response.
Can I apply if I already have a website that needs improvement?+
Yes. Redesigns are accepted. Explain what you have, what's not working, and what you're hoping to improve. That's all you need.
Do you prioritize certain types of organizations?+
Webspansion prioritizes projects where a website can make a meaningful difference — particularly Nepali-owned businesses, South Asian community organizations, and immigrant-owned businesses, which are a core part of what this project is trying to reach.
Where can I see real examples of what Webspansion has built?+
The Work page has case studies for the 19 websites built so far. Real projects, real clients, real work.
