How the process works

From application to launch, here's what each stage looks like.

  1. 1

    You submit an application

Takes about 5 minutes. I ask about your project, your goals, and what kind of site you need. No portfolio required. No design experience needed.

  2. 2

    I review it

Projects are selected based on fit, impact, feasibility, and current capacity. I prioritize nonprofits, community organizations, immigrant-owned businesses, and student groups — but all types are considered. Submitting does not guarantee acceptance.

  3. 3

If accepted, we align on scope

I'll reach out with next steps. We agree on what the site will include, what you're responsible for (content, photos, copy), and a rough delivery window.

  4. 4

    I build it

Design, development, and testing — handled by me. I share progress as it moves. You can give feedback at key checkpoints.

  5. 5

    Launch & handoff

Site goes live and full ownership transfers to you. You get the files, domain guidance, and anything else you need to run it going forward.

Timeline

Projects typically take 6–10 weeks from acceptance to launch. This depends on how quickly you provide content, the scope of the site, and how many projects are in progress simultaneously.

Current capacity: I typically run 2–3 projects at a time. If the queue is full when you apply, I'll let you know during review.

Revisions

I include 2 rounds of revisions. Major scope changes mid-build (adding new sections, entirely rethinking the layout) may extend the timeline.

Feedback is most useful when it's specific. "The header font feels too heavy" is easier to act on than "something feels off."

What's included — and what isn't

Included

  • Custom design built for your brand and goals
  • Mobile-responsive layout
  • SEO basics (title tags, meta descriptions, proper headings)
  • Contact form or booking integration
  • Hosting setup guidance
  • 2 rounds of revisions
  • Full file ownership at handoff

Not included

  • Domain name purchase (you handle this — I'll guide you)
  • Ongoing hosting costs (typically $0–$5/month)
  • Writing or editing your copy (you provide the text)
  • Photography or custom graphics
  • Ongoing maintenance or future edits
  • E-commerce or complex web apps

Communication

Most communication happens over email. I'll reach out at key stages — initial kickoff, design preview, and final review — so you're never in the dark. I don't have a dedicated client portal.

Response time is typically a few days. If I'm heads-down on a build, I may be slower to reply, but I'll always follow up.

If your application isn't accepted

Not every project is the right fit for Webspansion — and that's not a judgment on you or your work. Capacity, timing, and project scope all factor in.

If I can't take your project on right now, I'll say so clearly and point you toward alternatives where I can. You're always welcome to apply again later.

After delivery

Frequently asked questions

What happens once the site is live and in your hands.

Do I own the site after delivery?

Yes — completely. Once the project is done, the files, design, and domain are yours. There's no ongoing contract, no license fee, and no way for me to pull it back.

What about the domain name?

Domains are registered through you, not through me — so you always control it. I'll walk you through where and how to buy one if you don't have one already. Typical cost is around $10–$15/year.

What about hosting?

I'll set you up on a free or low-cost hosting platform (typically Netlify or Vercel). These are reliable, fast, and either free or a few dollars a month. I'll show you how to manage it.

Can I make changes to the site myself after launch?

Yes. The files are yours, so you can edit them however you'd like. Most of the sites I build are static HTML/CSS — no CMS login or complex dashboard required. If you're comfortable with basic editing tools, small text changes are manageable. For larger updates, a local developer or freelancer can pick up where I left off.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

No — Webspansion is a one-time delivery project, not a retainer. Once the project is done, I move on to the next. I won't be monitoring your site or handling updates on an ongoing basis.

What if there's a bug after launch?

If something breaks because of how it was built — a form that stops working, a layout that breaks on a specific device — reach out and I'll do my best to look into it. I won't leave you with a broken site. That said, issues caused by hosting changes, third-party tools, or your own edits are outside of what I can cover.

Can I come back later for a redesign?

Webspansion is a one-site-per-applicant project — that's how it stays free and fair. If you need a full redesign down the line, a paid freelancer or agency would be the right path. I can point you in the right direction if needed.

Ready to apply?
